This month we are focusing on the beautiful, diverse Northeast region, one of the most popular destinations to witness the changing of the seasons. Below, we’ve rounded up some unique ways to experience the fall foliage in the northeast, of course, all nearby the Thousand Trails and Encore campgrounds!
View the foliage from a unique perspective – the Hudson River. Hudson River Cruises, located in Kingston, NY, is only a 30 minute drive from the Rondout Valley campground. The cruises, which have been operating for 35 years, will bring you on an informative tour of the Hudson River Valley as the leaves turn. You’ll spot picturesque Hudson River lighthouses, orchards, vineyards, all against the backdrop of the changing leaves, all from the decks of their ship, the Rip Van Winkle.
Take the Prospect Mountain Park Trail in Lake George to experience the New York fall foliage by foot! Don’t forget to bring your camera. This out-and-back trail is dog friendly. Just be ready for the real reward: the views when you reach the top. This trail is approximately a 30 minute drive from the Lake George Escape RV Resort.
Maybe you feel like playing amongst the colorful fall trees rather than just viewing them. If so, perhaps visiting one of the ropes courses in the Poconos suits your interests. Pocono TreeVentures is a fun place for kids and adults of all ages to hang out in the trees, conquer ropes courses, and zip down zip lines. Make sure you bring your closed toed shoes, your energy, and a willing attitude – these ropes courses can be challenging for some, but a super fun autumn activity! The Pocono TreeVentures is located just a 10 minute drive from the Timothy Lake South RV Campground.
If you’re staying at the Scotrun campground, you’re near one of the greatest scenic trails in all of America – the Appalachian National Scenic Trail! Located just 30 minutes from Scotrun is the Mount Minsi trail. This trail is pretty busy, allows dogs on leashes, and offers incredible views at the summit. Pack a lunch for this trail, it may take you up to 3 hours to complete..
Canoe along the Contoocook River to experience the beauty of the New Hampshire foliage. Contoocook River is located no more than a 15 minute drive from Sandy Beach RV Resort. It is 71 miles long and flows from Pool Pond and Contoocook Lake and empties into the Merrimack River. The folks at the family owned and operated Contoocook River Canoe company will set you up with a rented canoe so you can experience the fall foliage of New Hampshire at your own pace.
The best time to visit Maine to view the changing colors is early to mid-October, so this is your early warning! The Grafton Notch State Park, a huge state park with trails for hiking, cross-country skiing, biking and more is an option that guarantees views of the fall foliage. It’s a little bit of a trek from the Moody Beach RV Campground, but with so much to see and do here, it would be worth the 2 hour drive.
Tell us in the comments your favorite place to see the changing of the seasons!
