If you haven’t already knocked the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta off your bucket list, this year is your year. The 44th Annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is the largest hot air balloon festival in the world. Spanning over 9 days, you can see over 500 hot air balloons launched into the sky. This years festival takes place from Oct 3- 11 at Balloon Fiesta Park in New Mexico, an approximate 4 hour drive from the Venture In RV Resort. The scene will be worth it.
The year’s theme is “Where Dreams Take Flight” and you can expect a wide arrange of creative hot air balloons – from cartoon characters, to special artistic representations formed into balloons, and even balloons that glow in the night sky. There will be over 200 pilots from all around the world launching and navigating these balloons in the southwestern sky.
This is one of Albuquerque’s largest tourist attractions and also a great opportunity for visitors to explore New Mexico’s unique culture and history. There is even a museum, the Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum, where visitors can learn about the history and science of ballooning.
There will be special events and competitions all week long. Don’t miss the Fiesta Challenge, where balloonists play a game to see who can drop a marker closest to a target. Or the awe-inspiring Flight of the Nation’s Mass Ascension, where balloonists from each represented nation launch their balloon, one at a time, with their national anthem playing in the background.
Make sure to visit the Fiesta website for information on parking your RV for the event.
