In addition to the Veterans Day events we’ve highlighted, there’s plenty going at the preserves. Thanksgiving dinners, craft sales, holiday bazaars and more. Here’s just a few, but to see a complete listing of events check out the November-December issue of TrailBlazer or visit www.trailblazermagazinze.net.

Celebrate Christmas in the Country, November 18-20 during a trip to Natchez Trace. The event is just 25 miles from the preserve and features 105 different booths with items such as antiques, folk art, fried pies, quilts, jewelry, food concessions and Santa Claus. Admission is $3 per person and children under 8 are free. Held in Lawrenceburg. For information call (931) 762-4911.

Get a jump on your holiday shopping at the Saturday Christmas Market in at the Port of Ilwaco, less than a mile from the Long Beach Preserve. Enjoy the lights and the holiday magic at the Ford Holiday River Parade and Lighting Ceremony at San Antonio’s River Walk. Plan a stay at Medina Lake to see the Holiday River parade which is a floating parade of approximately 25 professionally decorated and lighted river barges. This year’s event, scheduled for November 23, marks the 30th anniversary of the parade. This spectacular one-hour parade along San Antonio’s River Walk has featured illuminated floats with celebrities, bands and lavishly-costumed participants. The parade is followed by the lighting ceremony, during which 1.4 million lights are turned on along the River Walk.

If you’re visiting Scotrun on November 29, don’t miss the beautiful sounds of The Vienna Boys Choir. Enjoy the world famous choir in concert at The Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, just 15 minutes from the preserve. For information call (570) 420-2808 or visit www.shermantheater.com.
