While the preserves wind down summer and host plenty of Back to School parties and Goodbye to Summer events, our local calendar has plenty to offer also. Here are a few of our favorites.
If you’re planning a stay at Birch Bay, schedule your visit around the Drayton Harbor Days Festival Street Fair, Maritime Celebration and Pet Show, set for the first weekend in August. This two-day weekend event is packed with kids games, crafts, a scavenger hunt, the “Prestigious George Raft Race”, pirate costume judging contest, arts, crafts and food vendors, vintage steam boats, Plover Ferry rides and much more! New this year to the festivities is a pet show to be held Sunday at 2 p.m. Adults and kids of all ages can enter their pet lizard, cat, duck, or dog! There will be prizes!!!! Event is held at the Blaine Boating Center, 235 Marine Drive, just 4 miles from the preserve. For information call (360) 332-4544.
Incorporate the love of lemons when visiting Pio Pico Preserve by attending the Chula Vista Lemon Festival set for August 12.
