Alright travelers, how many of you know that August is American Adventures Month? Founded by adventure-seeker Peter Kulkkula, American Adventures Month celebrates traveling throughout the Americas and truly exploring the land. What a perfect theme for all of you outdoor enthusiasts!
With your membership in Thousand Trails, you’re able to visit various parts of North America and truly take in all of the unique qualities the country has to offer. Check out some of the great things you can explore during the month of August by staying in the USA.
Whale Watching: During a trip to California, the great northwest or even the east coast, take some time to view our finned friends who live just a few miles off the land. Numerous whale watching tours are offered in these areas. Since both the east and west are surrounded by bodies of water, taking a chance to spot a whale is a great way to explore North America!
Drive through the Mojave Desert: On the opposite side of the spectrum, take some time to make the drive from the Las Vegas preserve to a preserve in southern California. During the desert laden drive, swing by Bodie, Calif., a wild west ghost town!
See a Broadway musical: More interested in seeing all that sparkles in the USA? Swing by the city that never sleeps and see the best of the best belt across the stage. Take in a city that has deep roots in both the country’s financial as well as artistic history.
Snake Alley: If you’re looking to see what quirky things the Midwestern states have to offer, be sure to make a pit stop in Burlington, Iowa, to see Snake Alley, the most crooked street in the world. It is comprised of limestone curbing and locally fired blueclay bricks.
Biltmore Estate: Make your jaunt a regal one and stop by the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. Once home to the Vanderbilts, this 175,000 square foot home was built between the years of 1889-1895. Featuring 250 rooms, it is the largest privately-owned home in the United States.
For those who seek adrenaline fueled adventure, don’t forget to take a trip to ski in Colorado or try bungee jumping the Grand Canyon! However, regardless of how far you can travel this month, or how much adventure you’re ready to take in, use the month of August to explore North America and truly celebrate American Adventures Month!
