Fast Company magazine has one resolution all New Year’s enthusiasts should vow to keep. The magazine claims that if this one resolution is made, everything today’s go getters pencil in on their to do lists will be taken care of.
What is the one resolution you should stick to?
Simply do what you say you are going to do and focus on accountability. All other vows and things you “should” do, will follow suit and get done.
According to a University of Washington study from 1997, only 47% of Americans stuck to their resolutions. Today, the figure is 80%. Let 2012 become a year where you join the masses and keep promises to both yourself and others. A resolution shouldn’t be thought of as an annual torture device. Get your friends and family involved and start getting things done! Plus, by involving others, you’ll automatically check “spend more time with friends and family” off of your list.
Hoping to shed a few pounds this year? Add it to your list and remind yourself that you will be focusing on doing just what you said you’ll do this year. Stay realistic and set goals you’ll actually achieve. Pack a veggie snack or your favorite trail mix and hit the trails for a hike. Keep up your motivation by grabbing a friend for entertainment and positive reinforcement.
Looking to reorganize a bit? We all have things in the back of our closets that truly are just that, things in the back of the closet. Focus on small areas at a time and decide what you want to keep and what prevents you from getting that new jacket simply because there isn’t any room. Call up some of your neighborhood friends and urge them to do the same. Once you’ve all set aside your treasures, host a garage sale together. You’ll laugh at some of the things you’ve found and make a bit of money, all while spending time together.
