August 10: Celebrate National S’more Day!

August 10th is National S’mores day! This longtime camping tradition allegedly popped up in the 1927 publication of Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts and the delicious dessert spread like wildfire. If you’re tired of the traditional s’more, we have five new spins on the classic campfire snack for you to try.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup S’more

Ingredients

Marshmallows

Graham Crackers

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

Just like the traditional s’more, roast your marshmallow over a campfire or open flame. Once the marshmallow has been roasted to your liking, place one Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup on half of a graham cracker. Use the other half to sandwich your marshmallow and peanut butter cup, and enjoy!

This tasty spin on the traditional s’more will have everyone wanting more!

Nutella S’mores Dessert Pizza

Ingredients

1 cup warm water, 110 degrees F.

2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast

2 1/2 cups all-purpose Gold Medal Flour, plus up to 1 cup

3/4 cup finely crushed graham crackers, 6 full sheets

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil

Topping Ingredients

1 cup Nutella

2 cups (mini) marshmallows

To begin, place warm water and yeast into the bowl of a stand mixer with dough hook attached. Let yeast sit for 5 minutes; it won’t quite double in size.

Add 2 1/2 cups of flour, finely crushed graham crackers, sugar, salt, and olive oil. Turn mixer on medium speed and let mix for a few minutes. Sprinkle in additional flour until sides of bowl are nearly clean (dough shouldn’t stick to sides too much). Mix for another minute, then transfer to a floured countertop. With floured hands, form into a tight ball. Roll dough into a 12” circle.

Once dough is rolled out, spread the Nutella evenly over the dough then top with the mini marshmallows. Bake at 350 degrees F, for 18-20 minutes, until crust is baked through and marshmallows are puffed and golden.

Let cool, then cut and enjoy!

Gourmet S’more (Peach and White Chocolate)S'more - Peaches

Ingredients

Graham Crackers

Marshmallows

White chocolate bars (Any type will do)

Peaches

Have your peaches sliced and pitted on a plate. After roasting your marshmallow to personal perfection, lay a peach slice on half of a graham cracker, and top with the amount of chocolate preferred. Sandwich your marshmallow between the topped graham cracker and its opposite half, and enjoy. This tasty spin on the s’more adds a new elegance to the campfire!

Marshmallow Stuffed S’more Cookies

Ingredients S'more - Cookie

2½ cups unbleached all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon baking powder

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

¾ cup dark brown sugar, packed

2 tablespoons honey

2 large eggs

½ cup milk chocolate chips

½ cup mini semisweet chocolate chips

¾ cup hand-crushed graham crackers, NOT fine crumbs

10-11 large marshmallows, cut in half

In a small bowl, combine the flour, salt, soda, and baking powder. Set aside.

Cream the butter for a minute or two, then pour in the sugar and mix until light and fluffy. Mix in the honey, and then beat in the eggs.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Fold in the chocolate chips, and then gently fold in the graham cracker pieces.

Refrigerate the dough for at least 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Scoop up 1 tablespoon of dough, roll into a ball, flatten, and set down on a parchment-lined cookie sheet. Set the marshmallow right in the middle. Top with another tablespoon of flattened dough and press together. Repeat with remaining dough.

Bake for 10-13 minutes, until the sides are golden. Let sit on the cookie sheet for a couple minutes, and then transfer to a cooling rack.

S’mores Milkshake

Ingredients

3 cups vanilla ice cream

1/2 cup Hershey’s chocolate spread (or other chocolate syrup)

1/2 cup marshmallow cream

3 full graham cracker sheets

1/2 cup chopped Hershey’s chocolate bars

4 large marshmallows

4 tbsp Jet-Puffed Mallow Bits (crunchy mini marshmallows)

4 tbsp graham cracker crumbs

4 tbsp mini chocolate chips

Toast 4 marshmallows and set them aside. (You can toast them over a stove burner.)

Next, mix together vanilla ice cream, Hershey’s chocolate spread, marshmallow cream, graham crackers and chopped Hershey’s bars.

Divide between glasses and top with mini chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, graham cracker crumbs and a toasted marshmallow.
