For more than 30 years, October has been recognized as National Popcorn Month. However, it wasn’t made official until 1999, when Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman officially proclaimed October as the popcorn month. Why October? The popcorn harvest takes place in the Midwest each October, making it the perfect time to celebrate this natural snack.
We know we’re celebrating and want you to join in on the fun, too. For the month of October, MyRVMarket.com is running a special on popcorn gear! Enter the promo code TTPop12 at checkout for any of these items and receive $2 off.
To really get into the mood of fall and to pay tribute to National Popcorn Month, pop up some popcorn and make one of autumn’s favorite snacks: popcorn balls! These taste treats are simple to make and will leave everyone smiling.
2 cups sugar
1 1/3 cups water
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
18 cups popped corn
Directions: In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, water, syrup, vinegar, and salt. Cook over high heat until mixture reaches 255 degrees F (hard-ball stage) on a candy thermometer. Stir in vanilla. Pour over popped corn, tossing gently to coat. When mixture is cool enough to handle, press popcorn into 3-inch balls with lightly greased hands. Cool completely on waxed paper.
